Subject Description:
Studio Installation and Maintenance provides lecture and hands-on experience with equipment
repair and installation. Topics range from industrial applications, to home theater equipment
and professional studio installations.
Subject Hours:
4.5 credit hours (44 class hours, 10 lab hours)
Performance Objectives:
After completing this class, a student should be able to:
• Demonstrate a solid foundation of electronic theory and components;
what they do in circuits and their schematic symbols.
• Accurately explain their understanding of system grounding.
• Successfully complete tasks in troubleshooting and fault finding on a system level.
• Demonstrate proficiency at electrical soldering.
• Demonstrate proficiency at completing simple electronic repairs.
• Explain and demonstrate the fundamentals of consumer home theater A/V
technology and installation.
• Equip a personal or professional studio for purpose within a budget.
• Build and install a Digital Audio Workstation.
Prerequisites:
AUD101, AUD401, PSD101, BOM101, may be taken concurrently with AUD201.

Week 4: Soldering: Building and repairing cables/Soldering: on a printed circuit board
Week 5: Simple Repairs: pots, switches, jacks and connectors/Midterm Test
Week 6: Consumer A/V Specifications and Selection/Consumer A/V Installation and Configuration
Week 7:Equipping a Studio: Gear-Selecting the most appropriate gear within a budget/Designing
the wiring and planning the layout
Week 8: Equipping a Studio: Gear-Patch Bays and Normalling
Week 9: Equipping a Studio: DAW: Selecting a configuring the right computer
Week 10: DAW: Installing the Software and optimizing the operating system/Installing
and Authorizing Plugins
Week 11: DAW: Hard Drives: Data Management and Backup/Final Exam
