Subject Description:
Live Sound Reinforcement class is designed to prepare the student for the technical
and creative solutions necessary for live performance production.
Subject Hours: 11 credit hours (99 classroom hours, 33 lab hours)
Performance Objectives:
After completing this class a student should be able to:
• Demonstrate a working knowledge of AC power distribution and electrical theory.
• Demonstrate proficient use of a Multi-meter.
• Explain the proper use of sound reinforcement components.
• Successfully assemble and operate PA systems.
• Demonstrate proper FOH and Monitor sound system operation.
• Show proficiency in equalization for tonal and feedback control.
• Demonstrate live band mixing techniques.
• Demonstrate production rigging.
• Operate and coordinate frequencies of wireless microphone and in-ear monitor systems.
• Successfully record and mix live performances.
• Develop production plans and technical contract riders.
• Design systems for small and large venues including distributed and delay distributed systems.
• Demonstrate knowledge of conventional, intelligent, and LED lighting components and technology.
• Show proficiency in operation of advanced Real Time Analysis systems.
Prerequisites: AUD101, may be taken concurrently with PSD101 and BOM101.

Week 1: Intro to Live Sound, Basic Electricity, Power Systems, and Troubleshooting.
Week 2: Basic Sound Reinforcement System Components, Speakers, Amplifiers, Crossovers
Week 3: Microphones, Consoles, Effects
Week 4: Stage applications: instrument and vocal reinforcement techniques
Week 5: Stage applications: stage setup and mixing techniques for small bands
Week 6: Stage Production Planning
Week 7: Stage applications: stage setup and mixing techniques for large bands
Week 8: Live Recording
Week 9: Rigging, Lighting and Wireless Technology
Week 10: Using Real-Time Analysis
Week 11: Review and Final Exam (Written and hands-on)
